Binance founder and former CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) has been ordered to stay in the United States as part of a plea deal with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) over alleged anti-money laundering (AML) violations. CZ has agreed to pay a $50 million fine and step down as CEO of Binance. He will also be barred from serving as an executive at any cryptocurrency company. The DOJ's investigation into Binance found that the company had failed to adequately comply with AML regulations, allowing criminals to use the platform to launder money. As part of the plea deal, Binance has agreed to pay a $4.3 billion fine and implement a series of new AML measures.
