A Bengaluru-based techie lost ₹55 lakh in a cryptocurrency scam after meeting a woman on a matrimonial site. The victim was lured by promises of high returns through crypto investments suggested by the woman, who claimed to be an expert. She convinced him to invest on a fake crypto trading platform. Initially, he saw profits, prompting more investment. However, when he tried to withdraw funds, the platform blocked access, citing fabricated issues. Realizing the fraud, he filed a police complaint. Authorities believe this is part of a larger syndicate targeting individuals through online dating and matrimonial platforms with crypto scams.
