Banking scams have overtaken crypto frauds as the biggest threat to Irish consumers, costing them nearly €20 million since January 2023. Scammers are increasingly posing as representatives of reputable banks and contacting victims by phone or email to try to convince them to reveal their personal or financial information, such as passwords, PINs, or credit card numbers. To protect yourself from banking scams, be wary of unsolicited contact from banks or other financial institutions, never give out your personal or financial information to someone who contacts you unsolicited, and be suspicious of offers of high-yield investments or other financial products that seem too good to be true.
