South Korean authorities uncovered a $232 million cryptocurrency scam involving 215 individuals, including a popular YouTuber with 620,000 followers. The ringleader and his accomplices allegedly defrauded over 15,000 victims, primarily middle-aged and elderly investors, between 2021 and 2023. They promoted fake investment opportunities in 28 cryptocurrencies, manipulating prices and promising returns of up to 20 times the principal. Victims were even encouraged to sell homes or take loans to invest. Authorities have seized assets worth $34 million and are working to recover more funds while tightening crypto regulations to prevent such crimes.
