Unreleased Yearn Finance Project ‘ Eminence’ Got Hacked
The investors and participants of decentralized finance (DeFi) are just trying to make huge returns in the new protocol, ignoring the risk it involves. In the FOMO (Fear of missing out), DeFi investors sent about $15 million to an uncompleted DeFi protocol, Eminence. After a few hours, hackers drained away these funds.
Eminence is an uncompleted DeFi protocol, initiated by Yearn Finance’s Andre Cronje. The project was established to serve as an “economy for a gaming multiverse.”In a Monday's tweet, Cronje Cronje informed on the current development stage for Eminence protocol, just before he retired to bed. The investors in the decentralized finance industry took the whole message as a FOMO.
The investors whose aims are just to gain profit, flooded the DeFi project depositing about $15 million into Eminence, despite it not yet being ready for launch. Hacker grabbed this opportunity of the uncompleted project and drained all the funds deposited into Eminence. After some time, the hacker returned $8 million of the funds to Cronje after he learned of the incident.
The DeFi development shows the level of risk DeFi investors are ready to make to gain massive returns. Cronje had explained that the project is yet to be finalized but still investors jumped on it. As per the CoinGecko survey, most people in DeFi, especially in yield farming, cannot read smart contracts and the risks involved in them.
