BlackRock CEO Says Russia Ukraine War May Speed Up Crypto Adoption
The CEO of BlackRock, Larry Fink, talked about a possible boost in the adoption of Cryptocurrency due to the Russia-Ukraine war, changing his Crypto stance to positive. He believes that war has driven foreign transactions’ settlement shift to Crypto and digital currencies from banks and foreign-exchange settlement companies.
According to him, Cryptocurrencies could be used as a tool to settle international transactions, as witnessed during the Russian-Ukraine war.
The war will lead countries to reconsider their dependencies on fiat currencies and adopt Crypto as an alternative, said Fink. BlackRock has started studying the benefits and uses of digital currencies and stablecoins.
Fink also thinks that a well-designed payment system based on digital currencies will enhance the current system of international transactions’ settlement.
“A global digital payment system, thoughtfully designed, can enhance the settlement of international transactions while reducing the risk of money laundering and corruption.”
To boycott Russia, BlackRock had terminated buying any Russian securities in its active index portfolios, preventing capital flow to Russia and investments in Russia.
Amid the war, BlackRock’s total client exposure to Russia plunged from $18 billion to less than $1 billion.
